pteranodon

Cretaceous winged reptile

A pteranodon is a large flying reptile that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, distinguished by its toothless beak and prominent bony crest extending from the back of its skull.

Though often grouped with dinosaurs in popular imagination, pteranodons were pterosaurs—a separate order of reptiles.

With wingspans reaching over twenty feet, they were among the largest flying animals ever to exist.
