presidium
Communist governing body
A presidium is the permanent executive committee of a larger legislative body, especially in communist countries.
The Soviet Presidium functioned as the standing authority of the Supreme Soviet when the full assembly wasn't in session.
The term still appears in references to governing bodies in Russia, China, and similar political systems: The presidium issued a formal statement.
