chairperson
Presides over proceedings
A chairperson is someone who presides over a meeting, committee, or organization—guiding discussion, maintaining order, and representing the group.
The term emerged as a gender-neutral alternative to chairman: The chairperson called the meeting to order.
Often shortened to chair: She served as chair of the board for six years.
