ponying

Forking over cash

Ponying is leading one horse while riding another, a technique used to exercise or transport horses: She was ponying the young colt alongside her mare.

The term comes from the practice of using a steady "pony horse" to guide racehorses to the starting gate.

By extension, ponying up means producing money when required: Time to pony up for your share of the bill.
