pollinizer
Cross-breeding plant source
A pollinizer is a plant that provides pollen to fertilize another plant.
The term appears most often in orcharding, where certain apple or cherry varieties need a compatible pollinizer planted nearby to produce fruit: We added a crabapple as a pollinizer for the orchard.
Distinguished from pollinator, which is the agent (bee, wind) that transfers the pollen.
