plunking

Setting down heavily

Plunking is the present participle of plunk—to drop or set down heavily and unceremoniously: She came in plunking groceries on the counter.

It also describes the sound of plucking strings or striking keys without finesse: He sat plunking away at the piano.

To plunk down money is to pay it, often reluctantly or all at once.
