plie
Dancer's knee bend
A plie is a ballet movement in which the dancer bends the knees while keeping the back straight and feet turned outward.
It's fundamental to ballet technique, used as both a warm-up exercise and a component of jumps and landings: The class began with pliés at the barre.
Also spelled plié, from the French for "bent."
