pleb

Ordinary Joe, briefly

Pleb is informal and mildly dismissive for an ordinary person, someone common or unsophisticated.

It comes from plebeian, the commoner class in ancient Rome as opposed to patricians.

The word carries class-conscious overtones—calling someone a pleb suggests they lack refinement or status: I had to fly economy with the plebs.

Often used ironically or self-deprecatingly.
