plasma TVs

Ionized gas screens

Plasma TVs are flat-panel television displays that use small cells of ionized gas (plasma) to produce images.

Dominant in the early 2000s for their superior contrast and wide viewing angles, they were largely displaced by LCD and LED technology by the 2010s due to higher power consumption and manufacturing costs: We bought a plasma TV when they first came out, but it's ancient now.
