tube TVs
Bulky old screens
Tube TVs are television sets that use cathode ray tubes—bulky glass vacuum tubes that fire electrons at a phosphorescent screen to create images.
These dominated home entertainment from the mid-20th century until flat-panel displays replaced them in the 2000s.
The term now evokes nostalgia or distinguishes older technology: My parents still have a tube TV in the basement.
Also called CRT TVs.
