liquid crystal displays
Pixel-based visual panels
Liquid crystal displays, usually abbreviated LCD, are flat-panel screens that use liquid crystals to control light transmission.
The crystals align or twist in response to electrical current, selectively blocking or passing light to form images.
LCDs replaced cathode-ray tubes in televisions, computer monitors, and countless devices from watches to airplane cockpits.
They require backlighting, unlike newer OLED screens that emit their own light.
