pilot boat
Vessel carrying navigators
A pilot boat is a small vessel used to transport harbor pilots to and from ships entering or leaving port.
The pilot boards the incoming ship to guide it safely through local waters, then the pilot boat retrieves them after the ship departs.
These boats are built for speed and seaworthiness, operating in all weather conditions: The pilot boat pulled alongside the freighter at the harbor entrance.
