piking

Withdrawing from commitment

Piking is British and Australian slang for backing out of a commitment or avoiding responsibility.

Someone who pikes on plans at the last minute or refuses to participate when expected is piking: He was piking on his share of the work.

The person who does this is a piker.

In some contexts, piking also means being stingy or cheap.
