picture tubes
Old TV screens
Picture tubes are cathode ray tubes used in older televisions and computer monitors, where electron beams strike a phosphorescent screen to create images.
The technology dominated display devices from the mid-20th century until flat screens replaced them: The repairman said the picture tube had burned out.
Now largely obsolete.
