phantasy

Mind's invented world

Phantasy is an older or chiefly British spelling of fantasy.

It appears occasionally in psychoanalytic writing, where Freudian translators used phantasy for unconscious mental processes, distinguishing them from conscious daydreams (fantasy).

Outside technical contexts, the spelling feels archaic or affected: The child lived in a world of phantasy.
