pectoral fin
Chest-mounted fish flipper
A pectoral fin is one of a pair of fins located on either side of a fish's body, near the gills.
These fins help with steering, braking, and maintaining position in the water—roughly analogous to arms in land vertebrates.
The fish spread its pectoral fins and hovered motionlessly.
