pearling
Seeking ocean gems
Pearling is the harvesting of pearl oysters, whether for the pearls themselves or for mother-of-pearl shell.
The industry built fortunes and port towns across the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Pearling also names a sexual practice of implanting small beads under the skin of the penis to enhance stimulation—the beads resembling a string of pearls.
