Greek War of Independence
Hellenic liberation struggle
The Greek War of Independence was the successful rebellion (1821–1829) by which Greece freed itself from Ottoman Turkish rule.
The conflict drew international sympathy and volunteer fighters, including Lord Byron, and ended with the establishment of an independent Greek state.
The Greek War of Independence inspired philhellenic movements across Europe.
