parish register

Congregation's vital records

A parish register is an official record book maintained by a church, documenting baptisms, marriages, and burials within the parish.

These records, kept continuously in many places since the 16th century, are primary sources for genealogical research: She traced her ancestors through parish registers back to 1650.
