parging

Masonry surface layer

Parging is a thin coat of cement or mortar applied to masonry walls, especially foundation walls, to create a smooth, protective surface.

It seals porous concrete blocks against moisture and improves appearance: The contractor parged the basement walls before waterproofing.

The verb parge means to apply such a coating.
