parasitic twin
Absorbed fetal remnant
A parasitic twin is an incompletely formed fetus attached to and dependent on its more fully developed twin.
The parasitic twin lacks essential organs and cannot survive independently, drawing blood supply from its host.
The condition occurs when a twin embryo fails to fully separate and one stops developing: Surgeons removed the parasitic twin attached to the infant's abdomen.
