paraboloids

Bowl-shaped geometric surfaces

Paraboloids are three-dimensional surfaces generated by rotating a parabola around its axis.

The resulting shape resembles a bowl or dish.

Satellite dishes and reflecting telescopes use paraboloid shapes because they focus incoming parallel rays to a single point.

In mathematics, paraboloids come in two varieties: elliptic (bowl-shaped) and hyperbolic (saddle-shaped).
