milk stout
Lactose-sweetened dark ale
A milk stout is a dark beer brewed with lactose, a sugar derived from milk that brewing yeast cannot ferment.
The residual sweetness gives the stout a creamy, slightly sweet character that balances the roasted malt flavors: The milk stout had notes of chocolate and coffee.
Also called cream stout or sweet stout.
