padre
Troops' spiritual guide
Padre is Spanish and Italian for father, used in English primarily for military chaplains and, in Catholic contexts, for priests.
Soldiers might visit the padre for counsel regardless of their own faith.
The word carries an informal warmth that "chaplain" lacks.
