Pendejo is a Spanish insult meaning stupid, cowardly, or worthless—roughly equivalent to calling someone an idiot or asshole.
In Mexican Spanish especially, it's among the most common vulgar terms of contempt: No seas pendejo (don't be an idiot).
The word has crossed into American English in regions with large Spanish-speaking populations, often used playfully among friends or harshly toward enemies.
