oxyacid

Oxygen-containing acid

An oxyacid is an acid containing oxygen, hydrogen, and at least one other element, with the acidic hydrogen bonded to oxygen.

Sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and phosphoric acid are common examples.

The term distinguishes these from binary acids like hydrochloric acid, which contain no oxygen.
