overlocking

Seam edge binding

Overlocking is a sewing technique that wraps thread around the edge of fabric to prevent fraying and create a clean finish.

An overlock stitch encloses the raw edge, commonly seen on the inside seams of ready-made clothing.

The technique requires a specialized machine called an overlocker (or serger in American English): The seams were finished with overlocking.
