overstitch

Seam finishing technique

Overstitch refers to a sewing technique where stitches pass over an edge, typically to join two pieces of fabric or finish a raw edge.

The stitch wraps around the fabric's border rather than passing through it flat.

In leatherwork and bookbinding, overstitching creates a decorative whipstitch effect along seams: She overstitched the leather panels together.
