overlaying

Stacking on top

Overlaying is placing one thing on top of another so that the lower layer is partially or completely covered.

In graphics and video, overlaying adds text, images, or effects on top of existing content: overlaying subtitles on the footage.

In technical contexts, overlaying may describe loading data into memory space already occupied by other data.
