overblow

Make too dramatic

Overblow means to blow too hard or with excessive force.

In music, particularly with wind instruments, overblowing produces a higher harmonic by increasing air pressure: Overblow the flute to reach the upper register.

The past participle overblown more commonly means excessive or inflated: overblown rhetoric, overblown expectations.

A rose that is overblown has passed its prime, petals falling open beyond peak bloom.
