outpitching

Besting opposing hurlers

Outpitching is throwing better than an opposing pitcher in a baseball game.

A pitcher who outpitches another allows fewer runs, strikes out more batters, or simply dominates while the opponent struggles: Their ace outpitched ours, and we lost 2-1.

The term applies to single games or extended stretches of a season.
