Ottomans are low upholstered seats or footstools, typically without a back or arms.
The name comes from Ottoman Turkish furniture styles.
An ottoman often sits before a chair or sofa for resting feet, or serves as extra seating: She propped her feet on the ottoman.
Some ottomans open for storage. (Capitalized Ottoman refers to the Turkish empire or its people.)
