orchidectomy

Surgical gonad excision

Orchidectomy is the surgical removal of one or both testicles.

The procedure may be performed to treat testicular cancer, prostate cancer, or as part of gender-affirming surgery.

Also called orchiectomy.

The orchid- root comes from the Greek word for testicle, a reference to the shape of orchid tubers.
