oral fixation

Chewing, sucking habit

Oral fixation is a psychological concept from Freudian theory describing excessive focus on mouth-related activities—smoking, nail-biting, overeating, or chewing on objects—supposedly resulting from unresolved needs during infancy.

In casual use, it often just means someone who constantly needs something in their mouth: She has an oral fixation with chewing pen caps.
