Excessively detail-focused
Anal retentive describes someone excessively orderly, meticulous, or obsessed with control over small details.
The term comes from Freudian psychology, where fixation at the anal stage supposedly produces adults preoccupied with neatness and rigidity.
Now used loosely as criticism: Don't be so anal retentive about how the dishwasher is loaded.
Often shortened to just anal.
