off-roader

Rugged terrain vehicle

An off-roader is a vehicle designed for travel on rough or unpaved terrain—built with high ground clearance, rugged suspension, and four-wheel drive.

The term also applies to someone who drives such vehicles recreationally: Weekend off-roaders tore up the trails.

Jeeps, Land Rovers, and purpose-built trucks are typical off-roaders.
