north face
Mountain's coldest side
The north face of a mountain is the side that faces north—in the Northern Hemisphere, the side that receives the least direct sunlight.
North faces tend to be colder, icier, and more challenging for climbers: The north face of the Eiger is notoriously treacherous.
The term is strongly associated with alpine mountaineering and the outdoor apparel brand that took its name from this concept.
