Cold wind southward

A norther is a cold wind or storm blowing from the north, especially the strong, sudden cold fronts that sweep across Texas and the Gulf of Mexico in winter.

The term is regional, most common in the American South and Southwest: A blue norther dropped the temperature forty degrees in an hour.
