nor'easters

Atlantic winter tempests

Nor'easters are powerful storms that travel up the eastern coast of North America, named for the strong northeast winds that blow in from the ocean ahead of the system.

They bring heavy rain or snow, high winds, and coastal flooding, often striking New England and the Mid-Atlantic states in fall and winter: Schools closed across the region as the nor'easter dumped two feet of snow.
