neutral position
Neither side taken
A neutral position is a default or resting state where no particular force, bias, or engagement is active.
In driving, it's the gear setting where the engine isn't connected to the wheels.
In exercise and ergonomics, it describes body alignment that minimizes strain: Keep your wrists in a neutral position while typing.
The phrase extends to any stance of noncommitment or balance between opposing forces.
