network port
Digital traffic gateway
A network port is a numbered endpoint for communication between computers.
Each port number (from 0 to 65535) identifies a specific service or application—port 80 handles web traffic, port 443 handles secure connections.
When data arrives at a computer, the port number tells it which program should receive the information.
The firewall blocks all incoming traffic except on port 22.
