Net charge is the overall electric charge of an object or system after positive and negative charges are balanced against each other.
An atom with more electrons than protons has a negative net charge; one with fewer electrons has a positive net charge.
When positive and negative charges are equal, the net charge is zero: The molecule has no net charge.
