neaps
Half-moon tides
Neaps are neap tides—the tides of smallest range that occur twice monthly when the sun and moon pull at right angles to each other, partially canceling their gravitational effects.
The opposite of spring tides.
The boat sat grounded during the neaps.
In some British dialects, neaps also means turnips.
