natural bridge
Erosion-carved archway
A natural bridge is a rock formation where erosion has carved an arch or span, leaving a bridge-like structure connecting two points of land.
Rivers, wind, and weathering create these formations over thousands of years.
We hiked to see the natural bridge carved by the stream.
The term also applies figuratively to any organic connection between disparate things: Her research served as a natural bridge between physics and biology.
