music CD
Shiny audio platter
A music CD is a compact disc containing audio recordings, the dominant format for commercial music distribution from the mid-1980s through the early 2000s.
Unlike data CDs, music CDs store uncompressed audio playable in standard CD players: I found my old music CDs in a box in the garage.
The format has largely been displaced by digital streaming and downloads.
