freak show
Carnival oddity display
A freak show was a carnival or circus exhibition displaying people with unusual physical characteristics—giants, conjoined twins, bearded women.
Such shows were common entertainment from the 19th century through the mid-20th.
The term now applies figuratively to any spectacle of dysfunction or chaos: The committee hearing turned into a complete freak show.
Often carries a note of voyeuristic fascination mixed with judgment.
