half-length
Cut off mid-body
Half-length describes a portrait or depiction showing a person from the waist up: a half-length portrait of the duchess.
The term distinguishes such works from full-length portraits (showing the entire body) and bust portraits (showing only head and shoulders).
As a noun, a half-length is such a portrait: The museum acquired a half-length by Rembrandt.
