metropolitans

Urban area residents

Metropolitans is the plural of metropolitan, used as a noun.

In Eastern Orthodox and some Catholic churches, a metropolitan is a bishop ranking above an archbishop, overseeing a church province: The metropolitans gathered for the synod.

The word also refers to inhabitants of a major city, though this use is uncommon: Metropolitans tend to walk faster than rural dwellers.
