manorial dues
Feudal estate charges
Manorial dues were payments owed by peasants to the lord of a manor under the feudal system.
These included rents, fees for using the lord's mill or oven, and obligations to work the lord's land.
The dues bound tenants to the estate and persisted in parts of Europe until the 18th or 19th century: The villagers petitioned for relief from their manorial dues.
