snap judgments
Quick first impressions
Snap judgments are quick assessments or decisions made with little deliberation—the mental equivalent of a snap of the fingers.
The term usually carries a cautionary note, implying that such judgments may be hasty or unreliable: Don't make snap judgments about people based on first impressions.
But snap judgments can also reflect intuition or expertise that doesn't require conscious analysis.
